Project : Stuyvesant Tower Asbestos and PCB Remediation

DASNY – Albany, New York

CHA provided asbestos and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) project monitoring services through our on-call contract with the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY). To ensure satisfactory and timely results, we ensured abatement activities complied with applicable NYSDOL Code Rule 56 requirements.

Abatement activities involved removing windows with asbestos glazing compound and PCB caulk, along with PCB caulk in vertical and horizontal joints. Additionally, CHA oversaw the remediation of PCB contaminated soils, which included the removal of potentially PCB contaminated soils associated with installing a new walkway. In accordance with NYSDEC DER-10, confirmatory soil samples were collected from the excavation, and waste characterization samples were collected to determine proper disposal.

This project’s high level of success is attributed to the team’s tremendous effort in working double shifts, working at heights, and coordinating with a general contractor and various subcontractors. Our client, DASNY was elated by the service provided during the project.
