CHA Wins 2024 ACEC New York Gold Award for Innovative Westchester County Airport Project

Posted May 6, 2024

CHA Consulting, Inc. (CHA) has earned a prestigious 2024 ACEC New York Gold Award in the Transportation category for the Westchester County Airport (HPN) Deicing System and Terminal Apron Improvements. This recognition highlights CHA's contributions to advancing engineering excellence.

Westchester County Airport, one of New York State’s busiest airports, faced environmental challenges related to stormwater and spent aircraft deicing fluid (SADF) discharge into Rye Lake and the Kensico Reservoir. CHA's comprehensive solution involved designing a cutting-edge deicing fluid treatment and collection system, capable of handling the first flush of a ¼-inch of rain across 10 acres. The airport’s commitment to protecting the environment has resulted in a system that effectively safeguards a crucial drinking water source for New York City and Westchester County.

In addition to the deicing system, the project reconstructed the terminal ramp and taxiway and added passenger boarding bridges, enclosed walkways, electrical and communication upgrades, two underground storage tanks, and a truck upload station. These enhancements position Westchester County Airport to serve its business and residential communities efficiently.
