Two CHA Projects Earn National ACEC Recognition Awards

CHA Consulting, Inc. (CHA) has been awarded two National Recognition Awards in the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) 2021 Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition. The 96th Street and Keystone Parkway Corridor Improvements in Carmel, Indiana, and the Niagara County Landfill No. 1 Improvements in Lockport, New York, were recognized at the 2021 Virtual Awards Gala on Thursday, June 17.

96th Street and Keystone Parkway Corridor Improvements

The 96th Street and Keystone Parkway Corridor Improvements transformed traffic flow and improved access to businesses along what was one of the most congested roadways in Indiana. The $35 million project created a split-grade interchange, a six-lane bridge, a collector-distributor roadway, and more efficient and safer roundabouts to improve roadway traffic flow. The corridor improvements project received the Grand Project Award in the 2021 ACEC Indiana Engineering Excellence Awards, the state’s most prestigious engineering award.

Niagara County Landfill No. 1 ImprovementsThe Niagara County Landfill No. 1 Improvements involved a remediation plan using a ClosureTurf® system that was accepted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and implemented for $3.1 million—one-quarter of the cost of another consultant’s original remediation strategy. The ClosureTurf® system met the remedial expectations at a lower installation price and provided long-term maintenance savings, meeting all the owner’s objectives. The project earned a Diamond Award in the Environmental Category in the 2021 ACEC New York Engineering Excellence Awards.

The National ACEC EEA competition—the “Academy Awards of the engineering industry”—recognizes projects from across the United States for exceptional achievement in engineering. To be eligible to compete in the National ACEC EEA competition, projects must first win at the state level.
