Social Circle-Fairplay Road Realignment and Reconstruction
The Hard Labor Creek Regional Reservoir project is an $85 million initiative to develop a new 1,370-acre regional reservoir at Hard Labor Creek near Social Circle, GA. The $6 million, 2.2-mile realignment and reconstruction of Social Circle-Fairplay Road was an integral part of the development initiative.
CHA developed preliminary and final roadway and bridge plans for the reconstruction and realignment of Social Circle-Fairplay Road, which was to be inundated at two locations: Reedy Creek and the Hard Labor Creek channel. The roadway at the Reedy Creek crossing was reconstructed to replace the existing sag vertical alignment with an elevated 1,000-foot-long earthen causeway. In addition, CHA assessed a number of alternatives and developed two new bridges: a new 3-span, 165-foot-long pile supported structure and a new 750-foot-long, 5-span bridge supported on tall reinforced concrete hammerhead piers.
